Frequently asked questions

Want to learn more about our private or duet sessions? Read our top FAQs below. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please get in touch with us. We’re always happy to help.

How do I know if a private session is right for me?

If we’re being honest, absolutely everyone can benefit from private instruction! If you’re looking for targeted one-on-one attention, with each session truly tailored to your individual needs, private instruction is right for you. Particularly if you are working through an injury or recovery, pain management, prenatal/postpartum, or have never tried pilates before - private instruction is the way to go. That said, even if you don’t fall into any of those specific categories, one-on-one attention is the most effective way to build strength and meet any specific goals!

What is a typical private session like?

A private session is 50-55 minutes and truly tailored to your body and needs. We use a full array of equipment including the reformer, Cadillac, ladder barrel, Wunda chair, and small props during these sessions. Although everyone’s session will look a bit different, a strong emphasis on building core strength is central to all of our instruction.

What level of training and certifications do your instructors have?

The Balance Room’s founder, Mari, is certified in Mat I and II through Balanced Body. She retook her mat certification and a comprehensive 450-hour equipment training course at Drexel Pilates. Mari is a fully certified TRX trainer and a Level I Movement for Trauma facilitator. You can learn more about all of our instructors through our About Us page. You can click through their individual Mindbody profiles to learn more about their specific training, certifications, specialties, and the types of classes they offer.

Is there anything I should know before coming to class, or anything specific I should bring or wear?

Just come with an open mind and a willingness to learn! Wear clothes that you are comfortable exercising in, and bring a water bottle in case you get thirsty. We try to limit our use of single-use items in the studio, so we do not offer disposable bottles or cups but we do have a filtered water cooler. We’ll provide mats and workout equipment, so there’s no need to bring your own.

What is your cancellation policy?

For private or duet sessions, we ask that you cancel no later than 24 hours prior to the start of your session. We ask that you respect that we are a very small business; so every booking counts. That said, we do make exceptions for true emergencies.
