Hi friends, it’s spooky season! Although I have been enjoying the warmer temps this month, this cooler weather is very comforting. I’ve written about this before, but the first cold days of the season always feel like a homecoming for me. After all, I’ll always be a New England girl in my soul!

Hi friends,

It’s spooky season! Although I have been enjoying the warmer temps this month, this cooler weather is very comforting. I’ve written about this before, but the first cold days of the season always feel like a homecoming for me. After all, I’ll always be a New England girl in my soul!

My baby boy turned 2 last week (when it was still 80 degrees outside!) & I’m still in shock. How is he TWO already?? My boys are getting older & more aware of the world around them — it’s both amazing and terrifying. I don’t usually love getting serious in this newsletter, but I feel compelled this month in the wake of Cornell’s assault scandal and then comedian Shane Gillis’s gross SNL monologue. I continue to be disgusted by how girls & women are treated by EVERYONE — not just men. Did you guys hear Megyn Kelly commenting on Jane Doe’s (less than favorable -in her opinion) appearance recently? I truly didn’t think any type of misogyny could shock me anymore, but here we are — my jaw is, once again, on the floor.

Our cultural degradation of women really underscores how important it is for me to raise kind, empathetic, outspoken boys. I’m not JUST looking for my boys to opt out of participating in the group chat, I want them to be the ones reporting it. This begs the question, though — if I do everything right, is it for nothing if I raise them in a society that continues to denegrate women over and over and over again? How am I supposed to do my job if no one else does theirs? I feel both discouraged and emboldened all at once — does anyone else feel the same? I would love to chat about it. Let’s commit to putting more energy towards holding men accountable than we do opining on what women wear to the gym. PS — You can wear whatever the f*ck you want at The Balance Room — we’re not judging!!

On that note! Let’s get to it. I hope everyone is enjoying our new website and software — I know we are :).

Schedule Changes Etc.

Keep an eye on the schedule in the next few weeks for some instructor changeups and a few schedule changes! Nina will be taking on Monday nights at the end of October (if you haven’t taken one of her classes- RUN to register — she’s incredible), and Paulina will be taking on Friday evenings starting this week (honestly, same sentiments for her!). Some things I consumed/discovered/listened to this month:

A Great Thing I Read This Month:

A new e-publication, Mothr. I love what they’re doing here. They partner with experts that specialize in every aspect of the postpartum stage- a period of time that lasts wayyyyy beyond 6 weeks post-birth. Some may argue that anyone with children is forever postpartum! (I would agree). They cover topics ranging from pelvic floor health, to mom-rage and even how to begin dressing your very foreign, postpartum body.

A Great Thing I Watched This Month:

East of Eden on Netflix. The acting is incredible -I’m obsessed with Florence Pugh. I have always loved John Steinbeck and this series really does his writing justice.

Great Things I Bought/Wanted To Buy This Month:

I’m absolutely obsessed with Gap right now. I bought this fringe sweater (worried my children are going to ruin it but whatever) & the Hailey Bieber Loose Jean — they are both perfect. I am not ashamed to admit that I wear head-to-toe Gap frequently. I also needed a good, basic belt so I picked up this one from Staud. I also grabbed this raglan top from Cou Cou Intimates- I love the dipped hem. I really love how Cou Cou only uses 100% organic cotton.

For the home: my addiction to the Briggs Auction app continues, and I got this runner for our kitchen. I also grabbed this tissue box cover (and one for the private studio!) from Etsy — it’s adorable, but be warned that you have to use a small box of tissues with it. Lastly, Hudson Grace DID have a sale, and I also had a gift card so I purchased my dream blanket. You’re invited to come on over and sit by the fire under it this winter!

Here are my open tabs (items I have not purchased....yet): There’s a lot that I want, as usual. Here we go: this sweater and also this one from Sezane. Also this sweater from Almina Concept (one of my favorite brands). I may have already missed the season for this one, but this jacket from Found is incredible. These pants from Sonderhaus are sold out in my size, but maybe not yours! This bambi-print bag from mango is ADORABLE, and this beanie from Alex Mill will be on my head this winter. A few things for the home — I am not spending over $200 on this, but the idea of a rotating photo album appeals to me. I can imagine this sitting out on our coffee table for folks to flip through — but I feel like I can find a vintage version for much less. Speaking of photos, how cool is this idea? Custom stained glass with a fused photo on it — I love the off-center photo strips. Lastly, these baskets are gorgeous and a great way to add warmth to your space (you can also find so many baskets secondhand for so much less $$$).

What I ‘m Playing In The Studio/At Home Right Now:

A little emo but with some beautiful voices — my newest playlist Ain’t Got Nothin’. I’m playing this in our living room at home a ton right now.

That’s all I’ve got. Sending you hugs!

xo, Mari
